FELIZ NAVIDAD

Se les presentó el Ángel del Señor, y la gloria del Señor los envolvió en su luz; y se llenaron de temor. El ángel les dijo: “No temáis, pues os anuncio una gran alegría, que lo será para todo el pueblo: en la ciudad de David, os ha nacido hoy un Salvador, que es el Mesías, el Señor; y esto os servirá de señal: encontraréis un niño envuelto en pañales y acostado en un pesebre.”

Este año en la función de Navidad mi niño ha hecho de ovejita y mi niña ha sido una de las narradoras. Le ha tocado leer justo el texto que os he puesto, el cual, de tanto leerlo, en casa ya nos sabemos todos de memoria.

Yo Simplemente os quiero desear a todos que 2011 venga lleno de fe en nuestras posibilidades, esperanza de cambio a mejor y caridad con aquellos que lo están pasando mal.

Jane Austen Week - Semana de Jane Austen

Ayer, 16 de diciembre, de estar viva claro, Jane Austen hubiera cumplido 235 años. Como es una de mis escritoras favoritas de todos los tiempos, he decidido que esta semana va a ser “la Semana de Jane Austen” en casa, además de releerme alguna de sus novelas (seguramente Emma, que es mi favorita) y ver alguna de las versiones de cine de “Orgullo y Prejuicio” (seguramente la gloriosa producción de la BBC, aunque la peli de 2005 también me pareció buenísima), me he propuesto que los diseños que haga durante esta semana ( o dos semanas… como ya sabéis mi gestión del tiempo libre deja mucho que desear…) van a estar inspirados en los personajes de sus novelas (a fin de cuentas, le he dedicado unos pendientes a Josefina Bonaparte, y francamente, creo que Elizabeth Bennet se los merece más!).

Yesterday, December 16th, had she been alive, Jane Austen would have turned 235. She is one of my favorite writers of all times, so I have decided that this week is going to be “Jane Austen Week” at home. I plan on re-reading one of her novels (probably Emma which is my favorite) as well as watching one of the many versions of “Pride and Prejudice” that exist (either the glorious BBC production or the 2005 lovely film production). Also, I have decided that all the jewelry I design in this week (or the next two weeks, for, as you know, I am not very good in “free time management”) are going to be inspired by the characters in her novels (after all, I dedicated one of my earrings to Josephine Bonaparte, surely Elizabeth Bennet deserves it so much more!)

Ahora me toca investigar materiales y tendencias. No tengo muy claro como van a ser, sólo que serán diseños sencillos del tipo que estas mozas hubieran lucido en su día.

So, now I must start researching trends and materials of the Regency Era. I have no idea as to how they will turn out, I just know that they will be designs that any of these lovely ladies would have worn quite happily in their day.

Las botas Ugg nunca me han resultado bonitas. Esto se debe a dos factores. El primero es que en mis años de adolescencia en Australia allá a finales de los 80 y principios de los 90 este tipo de botas eran la cosa menos cool del Universo. A mis padres el encantaban y recuerdo que nos regalaron un par a cada uno que utilizábamos sólo para estar por casa y como mucho para sacar al perro. La otra razón es que mis piernas no están acordes con el resto de mi (rellenito) cuerpo. Son largas e increíblemente esbeltas con lo que siempre que me pongo las ugg me parece que voy disfrazada de Caponata. I have never liked Ugg boots. This is due to two reasons. The first one is that, in my teenage years, growing up in Australia in the late 80’s and early 90’s this type of boots were the uncoolest thing in the Universe. My parents loved them though and bought them for my siblings and I which we only wore at home or, at most, to take the dog out for a walk. The other reason is that my legs do not match the rest of my (plump) body. They are long and incredibly skinny, so whenever I wear my Uggs I feel like a big bird impersonation.

Me explico, si te pones unas botas tremendas, un bolso gigante y unas mega-gafas que te tapan toda la cara, el resultado es que tu cuerpo, rodeadote objetos gigantes, parece más pequeño y delgado. Qué os parece? I have heard that one of the reasons why they have become so fashionable among celebrities is because they have a “slimming” effect. That is, if you wear huge boots, an oversize handbag and tremendous glasses that cover your face, the result is that your body, in contrast with all those gigantic objects looks smaller and thinner. What do you think?

Bueno, la cosa es que este año hace un frío que pela, me he acordado de lo calentitas que eran, he superado mis fobias… y me he comprado unas! En principio las he comprado sólo para estar en casa y sacar al perro, pero ya me las he puesto para ir a por los niños al cole, para ir al parque, ayer para ir al cine y hoy las he traído al trabajo!! (mi despacho es helador y no he podido resistirlo!). Voy tan cómoda y abrigadita que hasta me están empezando a parecer bonitas y todo ;-) Feliz Lunes! The thing is that this year it is freezing cold and I’ve remembered how warm they were, and so, I have overcome my aversion… and I’ve bought myself a pair! Originally, I bought them for being at home and at most, to walk the dog but so far I have worn them to take the kids to school, to go to the park, yesterday I wore them to go to the cinema and today I have worn them to go to work!!! (my office is so cold that I just couldn’t help myself!). I am so warm and comfy that I am even beginning to find them pretty ;-) Have a Happy Monday!

Zorn

Hace varios años vi una exposición preciosa en la Casa-Museo de Sorolla. Se trataba de la obra de un pintor (y escultor ocasional) Sueco de finales del XIX. La pena es que perdí el catálogo y no me acordaba de su nombre, sólo de que empezaba con Z... y hace poquito me encontrado con un cuadro suyo y me he dado cuenta de que era el.

Por si no lo conocéis, os presento a Anders Zorn. (El señor de arriba con el abrigo rojo, es uno de sus auto-retratos).

Several years ago I saw a delightful exhibition at the Sorolla House Museum. The exhibition displayed the work of a Swedish artist (and occasional sculptor) from the late 19th Century. Sadly, I lost the catalogue and I could not remember his name, only that it begun with a Z... and recently I stumbled upon one of his paintings and realized that it was him.

In case you do not know him, let me introduce you to Anders Zorn. (His is the portrait of the gentleman wearing a red coat, it is one of his self portraits).
